MONTHLY FOCUS
JESUS WANTS TO BE MY FRIEND FOREVER

Who can you follow?
I CAN FOLLOW JESUS.
Do This:
MORNING TIME
When you go into your child’s room, say, “Good morning, sweet boy/girl! Who’s ready to follow Jesus and love our friends? (Pause.) I am! I’m going to start by loving YOU!” (Tickle your child when you say, “YOU.”)
DRIVE TIME
Ask your child to pick a toy friend to bring along on the car ride. Tell your child to tell the toy, “Follow me, [toy’s name].” Encourage your child to continue telling the toy friend to, “Follow me to the [place where you are going].” Do this everywhere you go. Talk about how we can follow Jesus everywhere we go, too, by loving people the way Jesus loves us.
CUDDLE TIME
Cuddle with your child this month and pray, “Dear God, I want the world to know that I follow Jesus. Help me to love people the way Jesus loves me so they will know. More than anything, I want [child’s name] to know I follow Jesus so he/she will follow Him one day, too. I love You, God. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
BATH TIME
Give your child two bath toys. Tell him/her to pick one of them to be the leader. Show him/her how to pull one across the bath water or “walk” along the side of the tub, while making the other follow. Talk about how we can follow Jesus, and the best way is by loving people the way He loves us.

MORNING TIME
When you go into your baby’s room, say, “Good morning, [baby’s name]!” Cuddle your baby and say, “Jesus loves you (point to baby) and Jesus loves me (point to self). I love you (point to baby) and you love me (point to self)!”
FEEDING TIME
While feeding your baby this month, tell your child some of the ways Jesus showed people He loved them while He was on Earth. Look your baby in the eyes and say, “Jesus loved people by listening to them. Jesus loved people by healing them. Jesus loved people by forgiving them. Jesus loved people by giving them food. Jesus loved people by teaching them.”
CUDDLE TIME
Cuddle with your baby this month and pray, “Dear God, the one thing Jesus tells me to do in order to show the world that I follow Him is love people the way He loves me. Help me to show the same grace and kindness and generosity to others that Jesus has shown me. I pray the same for [baby’s name]. I want him/her to love others the way Jesus loves him/her. I love You, God. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
BATH TIME
Sing the following words to the tune of Mary Had a Little Lamb as you bathe your baby: “I can follow, yes I can, yes I can, yes I can. I can follow, yes I can. I can follow Jesus.”

Add bath crayons or shaving cream to bath time. Tell your child to copy what you do. Draw with a bath crayon or trace with your finger into the shaving cream. Switch and tell your child you are going to copy what they do. Talk about how Jesus wants us to love people the way He loves people. He wants us to copy His love!

Some people just seem harder to love than others. But we are all made by God, in His image every person matters to Him. That means that we are called to love everyone. But you don’t have to do it on your own. God can give you His love, even for those people in your life who are hard to get along with. Pray that God would help you to show love to the difficult people in your life.

By pouring it out on Jesus, she was saying, “You matter more than anything else.” Brainstorm how you could use the things that matter most to you to show love to God. Pray that you will discover ways to love God with everything you’ve got.

When you go into your child’s room this month, say, “Good morning! I see my sweet boy/girl. I love you so much, and so does Jesus!”
DRIVE TIME
As you drive, encourage your child to name someone each time you say, “Jesus loves . . .” Ex: Jesus loves [sibling’s name]. Jesus loves [friend’s name]. Jesus loves [grandparent]. End by saying together, “Jesus loves everyone!”
CUDDLE TIME
Cuddle with your child this month and pray, “Dear God, thank You for giving us Jesus to be our friend forever. He is such a good friend! Help us be a good friend to others, just like Jesus is a good friend to us. We love You, God. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
BATH TIME
Add a tea set or plastic pitcher with plastic cups to bath time. Encourage your child to pour water into the cups as if he/she is pouring drinks at dinner. Talk about how Jesus was Zacchaeus’ friend, even though he had made bad choices. Jesus even went to Zacchaeus’ house to eat dinner with him.

FEEDING TIME
While feeding your baby this month, name all of the people who love him/her. Say, “Mommy loves you and Daddy loves you and Grandma loves you and Grandpa loves you and . . . (end with) Jesus loves you!”
CUDDLE TIME
Cuddle with your baby this month and pray, “Dear God, I pray [baby’s name] will always trust how much Jesus loves him/her. I pray he/she will grow up to love others the way Jesus loves him/her. Help me model for him/her what it looks like to love others the way Jesus loves us. I love You, God. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
BATH TIME
