Jesus wants to be my friend forever.

Memory Verse:

“I can do everything by the power of Christ.” Philippians 4:13, NIrV

At Home Instructions:

Say This – Who gives you the power to do everything? (Jesus gives me the power to do everything)

Do This – (Bath time) As you help your child bathe, say, “Show me your powerful arms. Nice! Show me your powerful legs. Wow! Show me your powerful hands.” Continue with different body parts. At the end of bath time ask, “Who gives you the power to do everything?” Say together, “Jesus gives me the power to do everything!”

JAMES 3:3-10 – Taming of the Tongue

At Home Instructions:

Say This – God gives you the power to have self-control.

Do This – (Drive Time) Place a jar in the car for the entire week and tell your preteen that any person in the car who can’t control their emotions or words, will have to give $1 to the jar. Parents are included on this! At the end of the week, evaluate: “What made it difficult to stay in control of emotions or words? What happens when we lose control?” Use the money at the end to buy a special treat!

Ask This – What can happen when you lose control?

Do This – (Cuddle time) Cuddle with your child and pray, “Dear God, thank You for giving us Jesus to be our friend and to show us how to love one another. I pray [child’s name] and I will follow Jesus so we can have the power to choose joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and selfcontrol. When we choose these things, we will love others the way Jesus loves us. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

Say This – God can give you the strength to be gentle.

Do This – (Bed Time) Talk about some of the good things in your life. When you start paying attention to all the wonderful things God has given you, you can start to show that goodness to others. You can be a friend. You can share what you have. You can help others see the unique things that God has given to them. Pray for each other, that you will have eyes this week, to see the good things that God has given to you.

Tell your child, “When Jesus is our friend, He gives us the power to love people the way He loves us. Jesus gives us the power to do everything!”

At Home Instructions:

MORNING TIME – When you go into your child’s room this month, say, “Good morning! It’s a new day! Wiggle your legs and pump your arms so you can power up and get your energy going! Good job! And who gives you the power to do everything? Jesus gives me the power to do everything!”

DRIVE TIME – As you drive, say this cheer with your child. “Power up! Power up! Power up, up, up, up, UP!” Repeat. Ask your child, “Who gives you the power to do everything?” Then say together, “Jesus gives you the power to do everything!”

CUDDLE TIME – Cuddle with your child and pray, “Dear God, You are so faithful. Thank You for never giving up on us and for always being with us. I pray I will be faithful no matter how hard things get. I want [child’s name] to know he/she can always depend on me. We love You, God. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

BATH TIME – As you bathe your child, ask, “Who gives you power to splash water? Jesus! Who gives you the power to blink your eyes? Jesus! Who gives you the power to pat your belly? Jesus!” Continue naming actions. End with, “Jesus gives you the power to do everything!”

They may or may not notice, but be sure to tell them, “Find a way to show someone God’s goodness today!”
