Day 18 Prayer Guide – Thursday

Scripture:

“And I, when I come to you, brothers, did not come proclaiming to you the testimony of God with lofty speech or wisdom, for I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. And I was with you in weakness and in fear and much trembling, and my speech and my message were not in plausible words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, so that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.” – I Corinthians 1:26-30 ESV

Observation:

Paul didn’t come with lofty speech or wisdom when he shared the gospel with the Corinthians. He decided to know nothing except Jesus Christ and him crucified. Paul was weak and afraid to speak to the Corinthians. He got scared just like you and I do. But he simply told them about Jesus dying for their sins. People simply need the gospel. They don’t need your eloquence or wisdom. When you obey and tell them about Jesus even when you are afraid and insecure, the Holy Spirit does the rest and leads them to salvation. Our lack proves that the power of salvation does not rest in us but in the power of God.

Application:

God doesn’t need your eloquence or wisdom. He just wants your obedience. Step out today and obey by simply telling someone about Jesus. It doesn’t matter if you are unsure or scared, God will move past your abilities and work the miracle.

Prayer:

Lord, help me to obey. Help me to not speak with words of human wisdom but may my lack (my weakness) my fear be a demonstration of the Spirit’s power today!
