Day 4 – Thursday
Read Daniel Chapter 6 Aloud
Ask your Child
What sticks out to you in this story? Are there any verses that you like? What do you think God is teaching us in this story?
Learn: (Read or Re-tell)
Daniel was faithful; no error or fault could be found in him. He had so much integrity that his enemies had to make up a new law that went against Daniel’s righteous ways. They made it illegal to pray to anyone but King Darius. Anyone who disobeyed this command would be thrown into the lions’ den.
After the law was put into writing, verse 10 says that Daniel went to his home and got on his knees and prayed and gave thanks to God as he always had done.
Daniel didn’t let anything or anyone stop his pursuit of God.
Daniel was a highly disciplined man when it came to seeking God. He not only prayed to God daily, but he prayed three times a day! And this wasn’t a short “God thank You for this day” prayer. This was a “get in a quiet place, get on your knees and pray fire” kind of prayer. Nothing could stop his pursuit of God— not even being thrown into the den of lions.
Application: How Does Daniel’s Story Apply to You? (Teach, Read)
The enemy (the devil) and life itself is going to try to throw countless excuses at you as to why you should not pray and read your Bible every day in order to seek God (e.g., homework, sports, work, friends hanging out, the need for more sleep, etc.).
Besides countless excuses, it may even become very costly to seek God, as it was for Daniel, but you must be consistent and diligent.
Those who shine like stars don’t let anyone or anything stop their pursuit of God. (Have your child repeat.)
Discuss with your Child
What have you learned from Daniel’s prayer life that you can start doing to help you pray strong and power prayers like Daniel?
If your child hasn’t developed the discipline of reading their Bibles and praying, I encourage you to get them on a Bible reading plan and a Prayer guide. Fins some examples below:
