The Lord’s Prayer Guide
Matthew 6:9-13
9 Our Father in heaven, hallowed by your name,
Pray for God’s name to be lifted up above everything and everyone else in your life. This is a time to praise and worship God.
Use Psalm 23 to lift God’s name up: He is My Shepherd, My Provider, My Peace, My Rest, My Righteousness, My Teacher, The One Who is With Me in Dark and Scary Times, My Protector, The One Who Disciplines Me, The One Who Blesses Me in the Presence of My Enemies, The One Who Gives My His Holy Spirit, The One Who Chases Me Down With Goodness and Mercy All the Days of My Life.
10 Your Kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Pray for God to rule and reign in our world. Begin by surrendering to Jesus’ rule and reign. Surrender all the idols and false gods that you have been serving (especially yourself) instead of Jesus.
Use Galatians 5:16-25 to surrender deeds of the flesh and to walk according to the Spirit bearing His fruit. (In order to live under Jesus’ Kingship we must be filled with the Spirit!)
11 Give us this day our daily bread (lit. Our bread for tomorrow).
Pray for God’s provision for.
First, begin by praying for spiritual provision for your soul and for the souls of those you are called to shepherd. Our spiritual milk and food is the pure and unadulterated Word of God. Pray for the Holy Spirit to reveal to You Jesus as you read the Word.
Secondly, pray for physical provision. It’s okay to ask God for financial provision and blessing in order to be a blessing to others.
12 and forgive us of our debts; as we also have forgiven our debtors.
Pray for God to forgive you for the things you have done wrong and the things you have failed to do. Pray for the forgiveness of those who have hurt or offended you.
Use Matthew 6:14-15 if you struggle to forgive:
“For if you forgive others their trespasses, your Heavenly Father will also forgive you, but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.”
13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
Pray for God to guard you and keep you away from sin.
Use Ephesians 6:10-18 to put on God’s Armor on yourself and your friends.
“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints,”
