Week 2 – Thursday

Scripture

13 For if you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. 14 For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons[f] of God. 15 For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” 16 The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,17 and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him. – Romans 8:13-17

13In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, 14who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory. – Ephesians 1:13-14

Observation

The Holy Spirit is the seal of our salvation. His presence in your life is proof that you are a child of God. This is more than a belief or agreement that is written, it is an “inner knowing,” an acknowledgment of a present reality living in you. When he lives in you, you just know that you are a child of God and will be with him for eternity.

When we KNOW he is present in our inner man, it changes everything. We are no longer afraid of the future, afraid of death and tragedy, of what might happen next. We now live in the peace of his presence because he is ever present. The awareness of his presence pulls us into an eternity mindset and leads us to live with an eternal value system because that is where we are headed.

Application

One way we can love the Lord with all of our souls is by acknowledging and cultivating the “right now” presence of God. We do this by simply looking for his presence in our soul rather than trying to find him in our circumstances. For example, when I wake up to four crying children in the morning, it may be really difficult to find God in the circumstance of those four crying children, but I can find him in my soul. I can acknowledge the fact that his presence is with me “right now” at this moment even though my circumstances may not be in my favor. Another example, if I am a student walking onto a secular campus, it may be difficult to find God in that school, but I can know that even if I walk into a sin-filled culture his presence is with me. He is here right now in me, and because of this I shall be victorious and witness his overwhelming love, power and goodness in my life and be used by him to make a Kingdom impact on my campus.

Today in your prayer time work on acknowledging and cultivating the “right now” presence of God in your life. Think about the circumstances you are currently facing in your life and those circumstances coming your way soon. Work on acknowledging that he is here right now and give him praise.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank you for sending your Holy Spirit to be my Guide, my Teacher, my ever present Helper, my Encourager, my Comforter and the Spirit of Adoption who calls me a son/daughter of God! Holy Spirit, in the midst of all my crazy circumstances — the chaos I face now and the unknown storms I will face in the future, I acknowledge your presence that is here right now in this moment! You are here! I trust in you! Lead me! Guide me! Comfort me! Help me! Teach me! I trust in you! Thank you for being an ever present help in my life! In the Name of Jesus,’ amen!
