Sermon Summary
Luke 5 shows Peter exhausted and empty after toiling all night, searching for something that would finally satisfy his soul. Jesus tells Peter to put out in the deep and cast his nets. “The deep” is the place beyond control, calculations, and self-reliance, where faith and surrender take over. It’s where the Holy Spirit exposes our brokenness, where we encounter the overwhelming grace and goodness of Jesus, and where we discover our true purpose and calling. When we let go of our nets, trust Jesus, and respond in obedient faith, we move from empty nets to abundant life—finding the miracle, transformation, and purpose our hearts have been searching for.
Sermon Discussion
Discussion Questions
- Where in your life do you feel like you’ve been “toiling all night with empty nets” (e.g., purpose, relationships, career, faith), and what might it look like to “go deeper” with Jesus in that area this week?
- What is one “net” (relationships, money, plans, habits, fears, etc.) you feel Jesus is asking you to let go of, and how can you practically respond in obedient faith and surrender?
